Emperor Minilik died on this day. The Emperor, who in 1896 led Ethiopia to its most famous victory against colonial Italy in the Northern Ethiopian town of Adwa, suffered a series of paralytic strokes in 1907. Following his sickness, he passed his reign on to his wife – Eempress Taitu Betul and was subsequently succeeded by Lij Iyasu – Minilik’s grandson. The Emperor finally died on 12 December 1913.
