Teddy Afro in Australia

Teddy AfroPhotography and words: Befekir Kebede | Sunday, 12 June 2011

This was Teddy Afro’s second concert in Australia held in June 2011.  It was in March 2006, following the success of the album Yasteseryal, that he came Down Under for the first time as part of his round-the-world tour.

In 2006, I went along to the concert utterly to see for myself what the fuss was about regarding this emerging, extraordinarily popular Ethiopian pop star by the name of Teddy Afro.  The very moment he appeared on stage I was able to realize that I was in for a show.  But for me, the show was not confined to the stage.  Off stage and in the audience was another show that captured my attention just as much.  The audience was incredibly diverse:  young, old, male, female, singles and couples.  They came in their thousands and they were passionately engaged with the show.

In 2011, I had known a lot more about Teddy and went along with my camera to document his second show in Australia. The venue was full to capacity, Teddy was energetic and I kept snapping. The result is what you see here.
