About Ethiopia

Ethiopia is a country of diverse cultures, as well as diverse people and climate.

In terms of culture and people, Ethiopia is home to almost a hundred ethnic groups that are native to the land, each with its own language and way of life.

In terms of the diversity of its climate, Ethiopia’s land is one of the most lush and fertile on the African continent while bearing the hottest inhabited place on earth.

Ethiopia is also an ancient country whose enduring existence in the modern world is largely shrouded in history, ancient legend, customs and rituals.

In terms of the history of the origin of the Ethiopian Solomonic dynasty that was founded in 1268, for instance, the legend of the Queen of Sheba of Ethiopia and King Solomon of Israel provides a fascinating account.

Ethiopia has always been independent and prides itself on being the only country in Africa to have never been colonised, having defeated its colonial aggressors resoundingly.

Supported by ample historical and scientific evidence, Ethiopia also prides itself on being the origin of mankind, and mankind’s best enjoyed beverage of coffee.

In terms of ancient customs and rituals, Ethiopia is among a few group of countries in the world with most of its old cultural practices intact – this being particularly evident, almost daily, at the hundreds of Ethiopian Orthodox churches all over the country.

Despite popular belief, Ethiopia’s geographical landscape is among the most magnificent and scenic in Africa.

But much of Ethiopia’s beauty and character and strength lies in its people who are known to be among the most benevolent and proud in the world.

Throughout this website, you will find stories to help you better understand Ethiopia and its people from a variety of perspectives.
